Wow. Have I just discovered the Japanese equivalent of the Grabbies?!? Holy shit. There are so many Japanese bands that I like--Guitar Wolf, Teengenerate, Crucial Section, Sweet J.A.P., Coastersride, Thug Murder--that I got my hopes up as soon as I saw that these gents were from the Land Of The Rising Sun. But this is way fucking better than I was allowing myself to hope for. Slashing, frenetic, swarming, unrelenting walls of amplified rage that you can fall in love with upon first listen. Ye Gods, as Hunter Thompson might say, this is a motherfucking scorcher.
HEARTATTACK #45
Rockin' Japanese thrash-hardcore. Imagine a baby name thrash born to a Ramones/Motörhead duo. That's kind of what this is like. Raw, basic thrash 'n' roll. Rad.
SLUG & LETTUCE #82
Rocking punk from Japan. Hardcore and crust punk fans who listen to Turbonegro at home will like this, which is to say that while it really sounds like neither hardcore/crust nor Turbonegro, it has elements that appeal to both senses in my feeble brain. 'Dance floor/rumble songs/go! scum punk!/speed trap/violent number!!/barbarian!!' I realize this is a speedy analysis, but I think I covered it pretty well. My review is short, awesome, and to the point, just like the record.
MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #260
Six tracks of raw rocknroll-infused hardcore punk that brings to mind fellow Japanese punx Smash Your Face. Spend4 plays high-energy, riff-heavy punk rock that grabs you by the throat and shakes you. Just go, go, go!!
THE NOISE #247
Wow, I'm immediately transported back to the early eighties when hardcore was being slapped out by Boston bands like Gang Green, DYS, and Jerry's Kids. This is total energy music. This may not be my cup of urine, but I'm sure there are young kids out there grooming their mohawks, piercing and tattooing all available body parts, and jumping into a pit to exercise their right to knock someone's eye out and leave the club responsible for the injured party's lawsuit. But it's a lot of fun. Not sure why there are titles on these six songs, it's really just a formality since the screamed words are indistinguishable from the sound of a man having his penis removed by a starving coyote. But the band is into communicating--the lyrics are printed on the inner sleeve...in Japanese.
