ÍSLANDSFERÐ ELLEFU
(TRIP TO ICELAND #1
1)

by John Evicci

In 2011 I was sent overseas by my job for 4 months and, as a result, didn't think I'd have the time or ability to work in my annual trip to Iceland.  Shortly after returning home, however, I was invited to my friends' Siggi & Manon's wedding, which they were holding in October.  I decided to go for it and made a (for me) short, 10-day trip out of it.  I wanted to try to work in a hike of Leggjabrjótur (a hiking trail between Hvalfjörður and Þingvellir), but a combination of bad weather and difficult logistics thwarted the attainment of that goal.  Instead, I accompanied a friend of Siggi's on a hike from Skógar to Fimmvörðuháls and back, a path I had hiked 2 years previous.  Hiking this a second time made sense due to the fact that, the year after I hiked it the first time, the infamous Eyjafjallajökull eruption took place, altering the landscape.  We also traveled around the Reykjanes peninsula hitting a few small areas that I had not yet visited.
